igdirectInstagram have just announced a major update to their application – version 5.0 dubbed ‘Instagram Direct’ which now supports sending private messages, videos and pictures to select people you follow on Instagram.

You may often have photos and videos you only want to share with specific people. Previously this could not be achieved through Instagram however now they are giving users the option to send direct messages with either a picture of video to people you follow (and they follow you back).

After sending, you’ll be able to find out who’s seen your photo or video, see who’s liked it and watch your recipients commenting in real time as the conversation unfolds.

Photos and videos that you receive from people you follow will appear immediately. If someone you’re not following sends you a photo or video on Instagram, it will go to your requests so you can decide if you want to view it.

All in all, another great update by Instagram and Facebook that will no doubt drive further engagement.
