As we reported previously, Instagram was positioning itself to soon release ads onto their social network – creating a new way for business and brands to reach consumers in a visual based manner.
This has now come to reality with US users the first to see advertisements from businesses and brands. Kevin Systrom at the GigaOm Roadmap conference explaing how much interaction these ads are getting: “Over 5% of the impression led to Likes on these ads that we’ve run. That’s pretty tremendous considering most of the ads we see on the internet we ignore.”

Initial advertising in the United States include: Michael Kors, Adidas, Lexus, PayPal, Burberry and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
What is next for Instagram? CEO and Co-Founder Kevin Systrom went on to say there could be opportunities around how people search inside the Instagram app and how to uncover events and the photos people are uploading.
