Spammers Attack Instagram

Example of a spam Instagram Account

Over the past couple of weeks, many of you would have noticed an increased level of spam on Instagram. As the network now has over 100 million users, this has attracted spammers wanting to get in-front of this massive mobile audience.

I’ve noticed one particular spammer with an extremely high level of activity. Creating a large amount of accounts with a profile link to website:  http://yuuu.tv

For Security Reasons: I would not risk clicking any of these links. Sometimes they will vary the link with a URL shortener instead – probably pointing to the same address. Again, I wouldn’t feel safe clicking these links.

Many of these accounts also leave promotional comments on photos, further frustrating genuine users. Of course this is not the only spammer, unfortunately many are not abusing the Instagram platform in a noticeable way.

Hopefully Instagram will be able to reduce these spammers as it becoming more and more noticeable every-time you open the app.
