We previously reported rumors that Twitter will be creating their own camera application to compete with Instagram. Now we are hearing further speculation that Twitter will be releasing filters in their mobile applications photo functions to compete with Instagram.

It seems the team at Twitter is getting a little worried about Instagram’s success, as the app passes 100 million users and now has more daily active mobile users in the USA than Twitter itself.

Instagram’s success doesn’t just come down to their filters and app functionality, it really comes down to the community on Instagram and the way they consume visual based media compared to Twitter’s textual based updates. Twitter can’t simply build this and expect users to replicate Instagram’s community interaction.

It will be interesting to see how this goes and we will keep an eye on the App Store and Google Play for app updates.
